What do we mean by 10% profit back to nature?

The limits of our planet are clear. It’s time to grow in a new way. We’ve explored different approaches to managing our economies and societies, yet time and time again, we’ve fallen short. The relentless focus on growth has often come at the expense of our planet’s finite resources, leading to overconsumption.

But this isn’t about criticizing the past—it’s about reimagining the future. What could we do differently?

Growth Through Sustainability

Traditional growth models often prioritize short-term gains, driving resource use to unsustainable levels. The focus has too often been on scalability, leaving sustainability as an afterthought.

But there is hope. Innovation holds the power to create solutions that harmonize progress with preservation. Aligning profits with environmental goals requires deliberate actions, thoughtful incentives, and collective accountability. Growth doesn’t have to mean depletion—it can mean renewal.

What Could We Do Differently?

What if we just paused for a moment? One of life’s greatest realizations is that while we can’t influence everything, we can still improve some things. Even small changes can accumulate over time into significant transformations. For instance, if every company reinvested even a small percentage of profits into protecting nature, the cumulative impact could transform conservation efforts on a global scale.

Kanto’s answer is to reinvest 10% of our profits into nature. This commitment is enshrined in our company bylaws. We recycle wealth back into the very foundation of all life and well-being. Some might argue, “Invest that money into growth to make an even greater impact in the future.” Stop! What if that’s the flaw? Could we act now?

Our 10% reinvestment into nature is an act of accountability, showing that growth can be both responsible and sustainable.

Our plan

The Finnish Tax Administration maintains a list of organizations subject to donation deductions. According to the tax administration guidelines, a single donation can be between 850€ and 50 000€ per year.

Kanto will donate 10% of its profits from every profitable year to one or more trusted nature conservation organizations. Our profits are shown in our annual public financial reports. Since we started our first fiscal year as late as October 2024, we will publish our first report at the beginning of 2026.

In the meantime, we plan to donate to the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation, which protects endangered forests and ensures their permanent preservation under conservation law. Donating 10,000€ or more will earn us a certificate which will provide proof for our action. The aim is not simply to participate in carbon offset schemes but to use parts of our actual profits to combat biodiversity loss.

Future improvements should include independent oversight to verify that all donations made by any organization are made according to the pledged purpose. We're committed to promoting and improving the mechanisms to ensure accountability for all. Furthermore, we are dedicated to collaborating with professionals and experts who are working on this topic.

What If This Were Reality?

The internet has made it possible for even the most dispersed groups to unite. But this isn’t just about connectivity—it’s about the growth of collective awareness. More and more people recognize the immeasurable value of nature.

What can we do together? We can support and amplify the voices of companies that can pause and give back to nature. We dream that, one by one, businesses will join this movement, and we can all give them our unwavering support. One already did, thank you, Flowa. Could your company be next?

Money is a human concept. Its value exists only because we believe in it. Nature, however, is real and tangible. Why can’t we believe in this dream, too? Sustainability is no longer just an option; it’s the foundation of growth that respects both people and the planet.

You are our roots. We are Kanto. Together, we will grow a new shoot.
